why high and wide?

STANDARD EXCAVATORS HAVE THEIR LIMITS

By increasing chassis height and widening the track stance, a High & Wide undercarriage gives your excavator the ground clearance and capability needed to work in soft ground, rough terrain, forestry, and other demanding environments where standard machines fall short.

A wider track stance is achieved by increasing the distance between the excavator’s track frames, creating a wider undercarriage than the factory configuration. This high walker undercarriage modification increases the overall machine footprint and is commonly used on excavators operating in forestry, pipeline, utility, mining, and other demanding applications. Every Tysea Armor High & Wide conversion is custom manufactured to the required track width for your machine, ensuring proper fitment with your make, model, and intended application.

Increased ground clearance is achieved by raising the excavator’s undercarriage, providing additional clearance between the lowest point of the excavator undercarriage and the ground. The chassis height is increased while retaining the excavator’s original track systems and undercarriage components where applicable. This added undercarriage clearance can provide greater space between the machine and obstacles such as stumps, rocks, slash, uneven ground, and other terrain commonly encountered in forestry, pipeline, utility, and land clearing applications.

Where required, the track frames can also be lengthened to accommodate a longer track assembly. In some high and wide undercarriage configurations, increasing the excavator chassis height and width requires the track frames to be lengthened to ensure proper track stance. These modifications are done on a custom basis dependent on the machine make, model, job application and customer requirements.

Every undercarriage conversion is designed around the customer’s machine and application, allowing chassis height, track width, ground clearance, and overall undercarriage dimensions to be customized where required. The final specifications are determined by the excavator make, model, operating conditions, transport requirements, and customer objectives to ensure the completed undercarriage is built for its intended purpose.

Due to the increased chassis height, greater clearance is created between the undercarriage and the ground, increasing the separation between critical undercarriage components and potential ground hazards. Yes. If your excavator is already in our shop for a High & Wide conversion, it’s the ideal time to install additional guarding. We highly recommend incorporating cab guarding and other machine protection during the build, as it allows every component to be designed and integrated together. At a minimum, we recommend cab guarding to help meet the safety requirements of your work site where applicable. Additional options include FOPS, OPGs, window guards, door guards, belly pans, stump pans, rock guards, travel motor guards, and other custom machine protection. Every guarding package is custom designed and manufactured to suit your excavator, application, and operational requirements.

Yes. We keep a limited selection of high clearance excavator undercarriages in stock for certain excavator makes and models. Compatibility depends on your machine’s make, model, and existing undercarriage configuration. If a stock undercarriage is not available, we can modify your existing track frame assembly or source one and complete the High & Wide conversion without requiring the entire excavator to be in our shop. Installation requirements vary depending on the machine and should always be completed in accordance with the applicable manufacturer specifications and installation procedures.
